PADAMABHUSHAN

Vaidya Shriram Sharmaji was born in Chhapra (Rajasthan) India on 21st January, 1926. After completion of his preliminary education, he gained Sanskrit education from Brahmchary Shri Tulsidaram Sharma Ashram, Bahal Shahar (Haryana). After that he studied Ayurveda in Banarasidas Gopiram Ruia Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya under the guidance of Vaidyaraj Ramgopal Sharma. He came to Mumbai in 1942, started practical work under his guru ji and completed his ‘Ayurvedacharya’ Nikhil Bhartvarshiya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, Delhi. He provided his services in Matunaga Aushadhayala, Agarwal Nagar, Mumbai till the last movement.

He was a great scholar of Ayurveda, a great teach and administeror, treated lakhs of people ailing with critical diseases in India and abroad. He was recipient of Padmabhushan Award, conferred by the President of India in 2004. He was also honoured with ‘ Dhanwantari Award in 1998 & ‘Vaidya Ramanarayan Sharma Research Award’ in 1994 by reputed institutions. He rendered his services to the nation as President of Central Council of Indian Medicine, Vice President of Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi. He was also associated with many other organizations and worked as President of All India Ayurvedic Congress, New Delhi, Founder Trustee Secretary of Ayurveda Prachar Santhsa, Mumbai; Trustee and Secretary of All India Ayurvedic Trust, New Delhi, Secretary, All India Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, New Delhi, Founder Fellow of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, New Delhi; Honorary Professor & Physician in K G M P Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Mumbai and Special Executive Magistrate with Govt. of Maharashtra. He visited several countries of the world for giving lectures at various Universities and Institution on Ayurveda.

He also guided many students for MD & PhD in Ayurvedic Faculty, University of Mumbai.

Guided research on Diabetes, Bronchial Asthma and Rheumatoid Arthritis at the Ayurvedic Research Centre in collaboration with P D Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai.

Directed Centre of Ayurvedic Research on AIDS in Collaboration with ARCON.
